## Beamer on the Managed Desktop

• You used Beamer in MAS115: see Presentation section
• Install MiKTeX from the Software Centre and open TeXWorks.
• A minimal working example of a .tex file using Beamer looks like this:

\documentclass{beamer}
% \usepackage{helvet}
\begin{document}
\begin{frame}
Hello world. Here is an equation:
$E = mc^2$
\end{frame}
\end{document}

• There are two issues:
1. Various .sty files, required for Beamer, are not included in ther MiKTeX distribution by default. When you first compile this example in TeXWorks, a dialogue box will pop up to prompt you to install 'beamer.sty'. Click OK. After this file has been downloaded, press "Stop" (top left) then "Play" again. A new dialogue box will pop up prompting for a different .sty file. You may need to repeat this process 7 or 8 times until all the files are downloaded.
2. The example above will still not compile on the MD. I think because the default fonts are missing. To work around this, uncomment the second line: \usepackage{helvet} (or choose some other font package).
• You may prefer to start with this template file which has more packages and options included: BeamerDemo.tex
